My idea here is that IRC conferences, although they are traditional and common, aren't a really user-friendly thing. I can't imagine a person that is switching from Windows or Mac to find it comfortable in IRC. My solution is driving conferences to Jabber. Just look at Gajim - one of the best Jabber clients for GNOME out there. Just compare it to Xchat. One of the thing Jabber community is especially proud of, is the conference function. I wonder why no Linux distribution has implemented such a solution yet and I hope Foresight will be the first.

This is a good idea, we would probably want to run our own jabber server (i smell a new appliance). Perhaps we should create our own support related client that uses telepathy to connect to jabber. Could be a very simple UI that just allows folks to chat with people available to provide support.

Making your own client is a long process. Just have a look at gajim. BTW, it should get nice updates pretty soon. And it is much better than Pidgin as a Jabber client. Pidgin, due to its multi-protocol nature, is a bit over-encumbered. Gajim is simple and elegant.

Another point is how make the process of getting an account faster. I guess that gajim (or other jabber client you have chosen) should have a special window that would appear at first run that would explain to user that suggests:
1. If the user has a GMail/LJtalk/Jabber account, he can use it here
2. If he does not, he should be able to just enter his desired name and password to quickly get an account on your server - this is important for people that don't know what jabber is and shouldn't spend their time choosing a server, etc.
3. Of course the user can proceed as usual, creating an account on the server he wishes, but anyway he should get a bookmark to Foresight conferences.

Other great features can be implemented via bots.
